We set out with multiple goals, a huge one for me personally was to place higher this year than last, and that is something I am proud to say we did.
The WTC: World Team Championship is the highest level of competitive 40k and is easily the most challenging tournament on the calendar, the degree of effort required to improve year on year is not to be underestimated so I would like to share a few words of thanks with you all.
First a HUGE thank you to the event organisers and referee team, without you there is no event for us to attend, I know how tirelessly you work and will not allow it to also be thanklessly. This event was the best WTC in my 3 years representing Australia on several metrics, from the fireworks displays, jaw dropping scenery to the seamless organisation and coordination you guys hit an absolute home run and should be very proud of yourselves for what you continue to build on every year.
Next is to all of our opponents, Cyprus, Slovakia, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Scotland and Netherlands we didn't have a single serious issue with a single opponent over the 56 games played in addition to the Warmaster's games, EVERYONE without fail played in good faith, joined in on the ridiculous Aussie banter and gave us high quality challenges on the tabletop, making this event an absolute stand out in terms of community, competition and comedy. Thanks for indulging the Aussies and our ludicrous humour, superstitions and jovial banter.
Next, I have to thank our sponsors and our community back home, your support was instrumental in our success, everything from the practice and training, lending models, and support from local players to the financial backing and endorsements from local businesses and partners, not to mention the fantastic work of the Risky Rollers providing live coverage of 6 out of 7 rounds, sharing the WTC experience with you all back home. for more information on our sponsors see the links at the bottom of this page.
Our support team this year was also the largest Australia has ever sent to the WTC and every one of our coaches provided unique value, from alleviating pressure on the players by running errands, advising players between games on matchup strategy, running data analysis, morale support, liasing with referees and being quick on their feet to provide appropriate feedback to the judges and so much more. These absolute rockstars do not get paid and put up a significant financial commitment to the team in order to tirelessly support the players and are often undervalued and underappreciated, well not on my watch! You were an integral part of the 2025 squad and I have immense respect for you all
Finally, the players! It is one thing to watch each and every one of you dominate GTs back home, but to see you rally as a squad with a unified goal is frankly terrifying to see.... Every one of you impressed me on multiple occasions and none of you let me down, not even once, so thank you, thank you for putting in the effort to perform at such a high level for such a long and intense period without breaking and without faltering! You are a true inspiration and are each exemplars of the Australian 40k community!
I will be taking a short break now, to unwind, unpack and understand what worked well, what didn't, what opportunities we captured and which are still to be mined and decide on the direction for the team in 2026!
So please join me in celebrating Team Australia, 6th place for the World Team Championships 2025!
